This was my second Fantasycon, first being last year in Nottingham when Steven Savile put it into my head that I should go. I had a blast then, but as it was my first it was a bit hard to take it all in.
So this year was bound to be a bit different. I made a few friends last year and hoped to meet some of them again this year. And I wasn’t disappointed. Not all were there of course, but those that were remembered me and we had some really good chats this year too.
And I met even more people this year.
Additionally I went to some really interesting panels and agent/editor sessions. (Which is officially what these things are about of course). They confirmed some thoughts I have, and gave me some new insights at the same time, so time well spent indeed.
Already looking forward to next year, but first there’s SweCon in Uppsala and WorldCon in Helsinki, and a few other events, to do before that.
Now sitting at Manchester airport waiting for my flight to Copenhagen, and then on to home from there. It will be midnight before I’m home but it was so worth it.
To everyone I met, a very warm thank you and hope to meet you soon again!
Tomorrow I’m off to Scarborough. Totally excited. I had a blast year and everyone were so friendly. Unfortunately I don’t have anything published in English.
But who knows what the future might bring …not looking forward to the flight so much. The plane leaves at 6 Swedish time, which means 5 UK time, which in turn means I am in for a very long day. So if am struggling to keep awake towards the evening it doesn’t have to mean I’m drunk.
Just so you know.
Wrote earlier that I am going to be in a panel at Fantasycon by the Sea in September.
The panel is called “Say My Name“and will be on Sunday morning. Makes for a slightly earlier Saturday night for me perhaps… The subtitle to the panel is “Is genre relevant at all”. It is always a fun subject to discuss and I remember the good discussions we had at Archipelacon along those lines. So I am really looking forward to it!
Here’s a link to the programme item, and one to the Fantasycon site.
Can’t wait to go there and meet all the lovely people!
See you in Scarborough
I will most likely miss this years Gothenburg Book Fair. Would have loved to go, but it is hard to be in two places at once. Instead I am going to Scarborough. To Fantasycon by the Sea.
It’ll be my second UK con ever, and I am supposed to take part in one panel as well, although at the time of writing I am not sure when it it is. Had loads of fun last year in Nottingham, and have been looking forward to this ever since.
It was great meeting a community of writers and readers that I hadn’t met before. And everyone were so welcoming. So I just had to go this year as well.
Hope to see you there!
